Goal setting is one of the most important roles of leadership.
The goal setting process in K-12 Public Education in Texas has been driven by the accountability standards. Both districts and campuses aspire to achieve an Exemplary academic and Superior financial rating. With the new, integrated accountability standards outlined in HB3, the process of setting goals has changed. Academic and financial performance are integrated. Districts and campuses will be ranked based on performance. These standards represent a whole new “ball game” for district leadership. A different understanding of performance is necessary to excel in the new accountability environment.
